Terms of Use

Last updated: 25 October 2026

Welcome to Local Aus (localaus.xyz), a free directory of Australian local businesses run by Local Aus (“we”, “us”). By using the site you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.

1. Using the site

  • Browsing and searching is free and open to everyone.
  • To add or claim a listing you need a free account. You must be 18 or older, give accurate details and keep your password private. You are responsible for activity on your account.
  • Basic listings are free. If we ever offer paid extras, they will be optional and clearly marked, with their own terms.

2. Listing rules

Listings must: – be for a real business, service, community group or organisation operating in Australia; – be added or claimed only by the owner or someone authorised by them; – be accurate, current and in the correct category and location; – not duplicate an existing listing (claim it instead).

All new and edited listings are reviewed before they go live. We may edit formatting or categories, ask for proof that you are connected to a business, or decline a listing.

3. Prohibited content

You must not post or submit anything that: – is adult, sexual or escort-related content or advertising; – is a scam, fake business, phishing, pyramid scheme, or misleading or deceptive (including under the Australian Consumer Law); – promotes illegal goods or services, weapons, drugs, gambling without a licence, or counterfeit items; – is hateful, discriminatory, threatening, harassing or defamatory; – infringes someone else’s copyright, trade mark or privacy (including posting someone’s personal details without consent); – is spam, keyword stuffing, unrelated links, or bulk/automated submissions; – contains malware or tries to break, overload or bypass site security; – impersonates another person or business.

4. Moderation and takedown

  • We may refuse, edit, hide or remove any listing, review, photo or account at any time, for any reason or no reason, without giving a reason and without notice.
  • When we receive a credible report (for example of a scam, illegal content, copyright or privacy breach, or defamation), we may take the content down straight away while we look into it, and decide whether to restore it.
  • We may keep records and report suspected illegal activity to police or other authorities.
  • We have no duty to monitor content, and not removing something doesn’t mean we approve of it.

5. Reports and removal requests

Anyone can report a listing that is wrong, fake, offensive, or that they want removed — see Report / remove a listing or email [email protected]. Business owners can ask us to remove their business. We aim to review requests within 5 business days.

6. User-submitted and open data – no endorsement

Listings are either submitted by users or businesses, or taken from public open data such as OpenStreetMap and the National Public Toilet Map. We don’t verify every detail, and a listing on Local Aus is not an endorsement, recommendation or guarantee of any business, product or service. Details such as hours, prices, contacts and accessibility may be wrong or out of date. Always confirm with the business. Any dealings you have with a business are between you and that business.

7. Specials, deals and offers

  • Businesses can post and update specials, sales and offers on their own listing.
  • The business alone is responsible for each offer being accurate, available as described, clear about its terms, and compliant with the Australian Consumer Law. That includes no misleading prices, no fake or inflated “was” prices, and no bait offers.
  • Every offer must have an end date. Expired offers may be hidden or removed automatically.
  • Local Aus does not check, verify or guarantee any offer and is not a party to it. Visitors should confirm the details, price and availability with the business before relying on an offer.
  • We may edit, hide or remove any offer at any time, without giving a reason.

8. Your content and licence

You keep ownership of content you submit (text, photos, logos). By submitting it, you give us a free, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host, display, copy, translate (including by machine translation), format and promote it on Local Aus and related channels, for as long as it is on the site and a reasonable time after removal (for example, in backups). You confirm you have the right to submit it.

Some listing data is from OpenStreetMap and is available under the Open Database Licence (ODbL); toilet data is from the National Public Toilet Map (CC BY 3.0 AU). Those parts stay under their own licences. The site’s design, logo and other original content belong to us.

9. Translations

Translated pages may be created by machine translation and can contain errors. The English version applies if there is any difference.

10. Links to other sites

We link to other websites, including business websites, OpenStreetMap and aussieloo.com. We are not responsible for their content or practices.

11. Your responsibility (indemnity)

If you submit content or use the site, you agree to cover us (indemnify us) for any claims, losses, costs and reasonable legal fees that arise from your content, your breach of these terms, or your breach of anyone else’s rights or the law.

12. Limitation of liability

The site is provided free and “as is”. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or changes any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or other laws that cannot be excluded. Otherwise, to the extent the law allows: – we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, data or business, or for loss arising from listing information, third-party sites, or dealings with listed businesses; – where our liability can’t be excluded but can be limited, it is limited (at our choice) to supplying the service again or paying the cost of supplying it again, and in any case our total liability is capped at AUD $100.

13. Changes and ending

We may change these terms, or change or stop the site, at any time. The latest terms will be on this page. You can stop using the site or ask us to delete your account at any time.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, and you agree to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of its courts. The site serves users across Australia, and nothing here limits rights you have under the laws of your own state or territory that cannot be excluded.

15. Events

Events on Local Aus come from licensed public sources and from community members. Events submitted by the community are reviewed before they appear, and we only publish events that are suitable for a general, family audience. The organiser who submits an event is responsible for making sure its details (date, time, place, price, age limits and any booking requirements) are accurate and kept up to date, and that they have the right to share any text or images provided. An event marked “Free” means the organiser has told us entry costs nothing; optional purchases, donations or bookings may still apply, so please check with the organiser. Dates and details can change, so confirm with the organiser before you go. We may edit, decline or remove any event at any time, including events that are misleading, unsafe, unlawful, discriminatory, or not family-safe. Local Aus does not run these events and is not responsible for them.
